Ina Jang snips away the eyes, faces and different body parts of models to display various fashion accessories for a 13-page spread in French fashion magazine Jalouse. In contrast to the saccharine pastels and cliché fashion photography, Jang’s scissor technique conveys an unnerving darkness that recalls the behavior of serial killers and stalkers. To her, the inspiration literally came from an emotional and practical need to relieve herself of the elements of the project and people she didn’t like since she began struggling to get along with all of it.
Jang hails from Brooklyn and was recognized around this time last year for her abstract photography. However, this is the first time her talent for keeping the subject anonymous has been applied to fashion.
