Now the Hong Kong International Airport is setting a precedent for the region by implementing more than 50 beacons in one of its terminals.
To install the new system, the Hong Kong International Airport teamed up with 'SITA Lab.' The SITA system uses location-relevant information to provide passengers with directions, wait times, lounge access and even alerts about boarding. Passengers receive this information via a mobile app that can be accessed from their smartphone or tablet. Not only does the technology help to improve the passenger experience, but it also ensures that congestion and bottlenecks do not impede airport flow.
The SITA system ultimately sets a precedent for airports in the Asia Pacific region by giving passengers greater access to information.
