The IKEA Kuss Cushion is Made Out of Recycled Copies of the Ikea Catalog

The IKEA KÜSS cushion is IKEA's inventive way of making sure that -- once the idyllic home designs are pored over and the furniture is picked out -- the IKEA catalog doesn't go to waste.

Residents of Belgium can return their used copies of the IKEA catalog to IKEA stores, where they will be shredded and used to stuff a new cushion called KÜSS.

The world of fashion has been swept up in an upcycling movement that, earlier this year, saw H & M create a line of recycled denim clothing and Adidas turn ocean litter into shoes. Now, IKEA is bringing upcycling to big-brand furniture with the KÜSS cushion. Even better, the Swedish company is taking responsibility for a form of waste that the business itself creates: the IKEA catalog.
