Volcanic Rock Coffee Tables

Innriinnri Used Icelandic Volcanic Rock to Create a Sculptural Table

Design company Innriinnri created a new sculptural coffee table out of naturally sourced Icelandic volcanic rock.

The company decided to use a combination of basalt stone volcanic rock, cooled lava and silica -- a colorless chemical that is found in the Earth's crust. The sculptural piece is a comprised of two slabs that are sculpted precisely, the top slab is sanded down to give a smooth surface, while the bottom slab is unpolished for a rough and one-of-a-kind design. Both slabs were then submerged in Iceland's natural geothermal spa the Blue Lagoon, for the entire duration of the DesignMarch event that resulted in a natural white glaze at the bottom half of the table.

Innriinnri's new Icelandic volcanic rock table features precise design, creating a piece of art that has never been seen before.
