Welsh architectural firm Hyde + Hyde Architects designed this non-intrusive home in an abandoned quarry on the edge of Brecon National Park in South Wales. The house is designed to visually fit in with the landscape without intruding on it, finding a perfect balance between sustainability and aesthetic appeal.
Designed for a photographer, the house is covered with a metal skin containing handy openings that offer handsome views of the surrounding greenery. Hyde + Hyde Architects gave the house the form of a rectangular block that doesn't sit on the ground but at a height supported by pillars.
The end of the house features a glass wall in a double-height atrium-like space, which contains the living room and library. Oriented particle boards provide a perfect background for the display of photographic works, while numerous windows provide a gateway to the capturing of photographic images.
