The First HP 3D Printers are Already Changing the Way Printers Handle Color

The Jet 300 and 500 printers are the first HP 3D printers and are set to move the conglomerate into the 3D printer space. The two printers are designed with small-to-medium operations in mind and are set to democratize the 3D printer industry. The machines currently start at $50,000 and can come up to $100,000 depending on specific configurations. While this price may not be appealing to the general consumer market, it does fit as a comparatively small investment for companies looking to prototype and develop items in-office.

The two HP 3D printers set themselves apart from the competition through each printer's ability to work at a voxel level. A voxel is the equivalent to a 3D pixel and is used by 3D printers to create full-colored objects. This full-color 3D technology has already been tested by HP at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Yazaki Corp. and Youngstown State University, as the company researched effective uses for the tech. HP will also be working with partners such as SolidWorks to the boost its Open Platform. These partnerships will aid HP in better understanding how its printers can be used at the voxel level.
