House Thommy is a Meditative Retreat

Nissen & Wentzlaff Architekten designed the 'House Thommy,' a single-storey residence located in Bottmingen, Switzerland.

The architect's main objective was to design a home that would not disturb its natural surroundings; they wished to achieve a unity, a harmony, if you will, between architecture and nature, insofar as this can be achieved. The views, of course, are simply spectacular; at one end of the home, a cluster of magnificent pine trees stand, much taller than the building itself. An outdoor pool lies in front of the residence.

The cool, concrete exterior is punctuated with large windows to allow an abundance of natural light into the home. Inside, the home continues its cool, crisp aesthetic with white walls and minimal furnishings, all meant to encourage relaxation, contemplation and introspection.
