The House of Horns by WOJR reclaims an abandoned foundation in Los Altos Hills to form a sculptural residence attuned to site, light, and material. The design embeds the lower level into the hillside, restoring the natural topography while creating two distinct realms: a vaulted upper floor filled with daylight and a subterranean suite of chamber-like rooms.
The "horn" volumes rise in arches, channeling clerestory windows and skylights that filter shifting light and frame expansive views of Silicon Valley. Materials such as Danby marble, blackened wood, and terrazzo bring richness and depth, balancing the bold geometry with tactile grounding. Below, intimate chambers open to sunken courtyards, blurring thresholds between inside and outside. By transforming a ruin into a mythic yet rooted home, House of Horns demonstrates how architecture can merge narrative, ecology, and sculptural form in a singular expression.
