Dave's Hot Chicken Debuts the Hot Mozz Menu Item

Dave's Hot Chicken has introduced a new menu item called Hot Mozz. This new menu item takes thick-cut premium mozzarella cheese, breads and fries it until crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. Each unit is then dusted with any of the brand's seven signature spice levels, ranging from Not Hot to Reaper.

Dave's Hot Chicken's Hot Mozz can be ordered in multiple configurations, including a single piece, three or five pieces with fries and dipping sauce, as a slider, or in a 20-piece Hot Box for sharing. The food represents the brand's continued expansion into vegetarian-friendly offerings and joins the chain's existing fried cauliflower products.

Jim Bitticks, CEO of Dave’s Hot Chicken, shared: "Guests are obsessed with bold, indulgent comfort food, and Hot Mozz delivers exactly that, but in a way only Dave’s can."

Trend Themes

  1. Indulgent Vegetarian Comfort Foods — Consumers are gravitating toward rich, meatless items that mimic traditional indulgent textures, enabling plant-forward variants to compete with classic comfort dishes.
  2. Modular Menu Customization — A rise in configurable offerings like single units, sliders, shareable boxes, and combo pairings is creating flexible price and portion architectures that shift guest expectations for personalization.
  3. Spice-level Personalization — Tiered heat options from mild to extreme are turning spice into a primary product attribute, allowing flavor intensity to serve as a differentiator and loyalty driver.

Industry Implications

  1. Quick-service Restaurants — QSRs are positioned to disrupt with novel protein-free fried formats and customizable spice profiles that redefine fast casual indulgence.
  2. Frozen Food Retail — Retail frozen aisles could be transformed by shelf-stable, breaded cheese items and multi-heat-pack solutions that replicate restaurant textures and spice experiences at home.
  3. Food Packaging and Delivery — Packaging innovations that preserve crispness and separate heat levels for delivery and takeout are emerging as key enablers for transporting texturally delicate, spice-varied products.
