Andrew Newey's Series About Honey Hunters in Nepal is Enigmatic

Taking on a subject only few know the inner workings of but that is gaining a lot of importance lately because of the the global issue of the disappearing bees, documentary travel photographer Andrew Newey's series about the traditional honey hunters in Nepal is hauntingly beautiful.

Full of stunning views of an ancient tradition, the new series captures the honey hunting techniques and traditions of the Gurung tribespeople in central Nepal -- and how these people actually risk their lives to collect the wild honey.

It took the U.K.-based Newey two weeks to capture this memorizing yet dying tradition of the honey hunters in the world’s largest hives in the Himalayan cliffs.

"For hundreds of years, the skills required to perform this dangerous task have been passed down through the generations, but now both the bees and traditional honey hunters are in short supply," says Newey.
