Battery-Free Smartphone Printers

The Holga Printer Wants to Reimagine Mobile Photography

Printers often require an in-wall AC plug, but the new Holga Printer runs batter-free and manages to turn smartphone pictures into film. While the Holga Printer does mimic the uses of a printer, the device is better described as an digital copier. Instead of drawing files from a smartphone, the printer takes a photo of a smartphone screen and spits out a print from Instax mini film.

An accompanying app further augments the Holga Printer and allows users to mimic the effects of the classic Holga camera. The app is full of effects Holga cameras are known for and also offers recommendations to help the printer better capture the photo on the screen.

The printer is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter and is expected to release in March 2019.
