Hofmandujardin Rethinks the Way That We Can Celebrate Life

Designers Michiel Hofman and Barabara Dujardin of Hofmandujardin initiated the new design of a modern funeral ceremony center that offers a new yet beautiful way of celebrating life. The founding partners were inspired by a personal experience and it resulted in a design that centers around three rooms which surround the place of the coffin. The overall structure's goal is to correlate the timeless values of existing to the contemporary way of life. Hofmandujardin highlights three crucial moments in the funeral procedure -- the friends and family gathering, the remembrance ceremony, and the social encounter, which will take place in the three intricately shaped rooms.

The first room is closed off with a memory wall, with a multimedia screen that welcomes guests with images and videos provided by family and friends to produce a loving collage of celebration. The second room is the ceremony room, and the third room opens up social encounter moments for guests.
