In the ever increasing movement towards designing products with the element of sustainability and the use of environmentally friendly materials in the construction of goods, Japanese designer Akio Hayakawa has redesigned the traditional wooden pencil and completely re-conceptualizes it with a more sustainable way of using a pencil to its full potential.
The product is called Easy Pencil and was inspired by realizing the difficulty to continue using a pencil once it becomes too short to use which results in the remainder of the pencil put to waste. Hayakawa updates the standard pencil by integrating a 60 mm shorter stick of graphite inside the pencil so the inner piece of graphite can be used completely.
The wood of the pencil is made out of the Japanese Cypress tree and is fitted over a urethane coated graphite lead.
