This Vintage Set of Photos Will Haunt You and Give You Chills

There is something utterly creepy about this vintage Halloween photography series. Maybe it's how the paper looks burnt and yellowing from age or maybe it's the freakishly scary masks most people in the set of images are wearing but in all cases it seems that Halloween was a much freakier affair in the past then it is now.

This vintage Halloween photography series was collected by English author and artist Ossian Brown. In his 'Haunted Air' series we see a glimpse of Halloween celebrations in America from 1875-1955.

"I find their haunting melancholy completely absorbing; all of these photographs now torn out, disembodied and forgotten they’ve now become fully and utterly the masks and phantoms they dragged up as, all those years ago," says Brown.
