Gourmet Halal Poutines

This Specialty Poutine is Made with Hormone-Free Halal Beef

Ihsan Sandhu recently developed a gourmet poutine dish that is made with halal beef. While traditional poutine does not feature any meat, it does contain gravy that often comes from an unidentifiable meat source. Because the source of the meat is generally unknown, halal poutine is hard to find.

In order to make poutine more accessible for Muslim customers, Sandhu decided to develop his own version of the classic Canadian dish. Sandhu's halal poutine is made from a combination of hand-cut fried, Quebec cheese curds and gravy. The gravy is made using fresh halal beef from a facility in Guelph, Ontario. Not only is the meat halal, but it is also free from hormones and antibiotics.

Sandhu's halal poutine demonstrates the influence of Canada's multicultural population on some of its traditional dishes.
