Eco-Friendly Nightclubs

Greenhouse Opens in NYC (UPDATE)

The Big Apple got a bit greener this week as the eco-friendly Greenhouse nightclub opened its doors. The 6,000-square-foot club is the first in the state of New York to apply for LEED certification, and Greenhouse has a host of environmentally-conscious features to boost its chances for approval.

Greenhouse is lit by LED lights throughout, and the electricity required to power the entire nightclub--from the dance floor lights to the powerful sound system--is entirely derived from wind power. The bathrooms are fitted with waterless urinals and low-flow toilets. Bamboo walls and eight varieties of actual leaves provide sustainable ambience.

And the eco-friendly Greenhouse has even taken the extra measure to outfit its staff with Edun sustainable clothing, a venture Bono and his wife own that is based in Africa.

Greenhouse is located at 150 Varick Street in SoHo.
