Mitsuharu Kojima Architects recently installed bright green flooring inside a modern Japanese home. While green is not an obvious choice for carpet, this home uses the color to add a touch of nature to a minimalist space.
The nature-inspired interior was designed by Mitsuharu Kojima Architects for a home in the city of Maebashi. The space consists of sloped green flooring that curves up towards the front of the home. Although the flooring is a kind of carpeting, its green color makes it resemble real grass. The artificial hillside is also flooded with light from the front-facing windows, which recreates the feeling of being outdoors while inside the home.
While the home's layout may seem unusual, the idea behind the space was to give the homeowners an area that was not dictated by furniture, but left open to interpretation.
