Garden-Walled Dwellings

The Green Edge House Has an Inside-Outside Lush Plant Perimeter

Architects often talk about bringing the outdoors inside, but they often refer to the incorporation of strategic fenestration. The Green Edge House certainly does employ an ingenious system of windows, but you'll notice that the garden has also been literally brought indoors.

Located in Shizuoka, Japan, the residence might first appear to be a minimalist and monolithic mass -- a great white box that seems to hover on its site. The continuous floating wall completely encompasses the living spaces, providing no eye-level views of its surroundings.

The mA-Style Architects created a river rock border beneath the opaque structure of the Green Edge House. In this, they planted trees, shrubs and flowers that can be observed through the clear glass walls for an original and engaging indoor-outdoor connection.
