The Gradient Cabinet by Ka-Lai Chan Partially Hides Objects Up Top

Visually stimulating, the Gradient Cabinet is aptly named. Cords made from polyester-covered natural latex have been strategically wound around a long dome-like metal frame to give the Gradient Cabinet the appearance that it is more shaded on the top than on the bottom. This has been achieved by tightening the space between the cords as they reach higher up.

Created by Dutch designer Ka-Lai Chan, the Gradient Cabinet may be an work of art in and of itself, but it was brought into existence to display other cherished objects be them sculptures, books or even dishes. Although the top of the shelves will partially cover some of the objects, Chan writes, "This way you actually take a closer look at the content of the cabinet. Just as in real life, where you have to experience a person for a time to really get to know them."
