Diabetes-Tracking Lenses

The new Google patent for contact lenses will target diabetics

A new Google patent that was recently acquired will target patients diagnosed with diabetes. The small lenses come of a partnership between the search engine and Novartis which now aims to create a "smart" approach to the sightseeing products.

This patent will explore the creation of contacts that monitor blood sugar levels on the go. This follows up on Google collaborating with the U.S. Food and Drug Association (FDA) on digitally enhanced lenses that monitor glucose levels via tears.

By eliminating the need to prick skin and obtain measurements through blood samples, Google is introducing a non invasive approach to diabetes care. With the use of chips and sensors, the pieces will instead serve some of the more traditional treatment functions.
