Google for Education recently updated its program to include a helpful tool for teachers -- an originality report function that alerts them to plagiarism. The launch is part of Google's 'Course Kit' that launched last year, and allows students and teachers to use Google Docs and Google Drive to hand in assignments.
The originality report can verify if work submitted by students has too many similarities to other written work on the Internet and in databases. Plagiarism has become a growing concern for schools with the availability of so many sources online. "Students have to learn to navigate the line between other people’s ideas and their own, and how and when to properly cite sources," said Brian Hendricks, G Suite for Education product manager.
The originality report will also detect incorrect citations to ensure that attributed ideas are correctly cited.
