Golf Coat Oy's Mindfully Designed Box Doubles as an Insect Hotel

Finnish company Golf Coat Oy is setting a new precedent for golf ball packaging with a box that can be repurposed as an insect hotel. Once empty, the golf ball packaging can be set in a desirable location for insects to provide shelter for bugs and larvae. For this purpose, separate paperboard is included in the cover of the packaging solution.

Created by PackageMedia Oy, part of Pyroll Packaging, this design uses the MetsäBoard Pro FBB Bright folding boxboard. This two-in-one packaging design came out of a co-creation workshop centered on improving current packaging and creating entirely new ideas. In 2021 alone, the company organized 36 virtual workshops, which promises to have a ripple effect on other industries as well for a more sustainable future with less waste.
