Jeff Martin Joinery’s Vessels are Otherworldly with a Rough Exterior

Upcycled glass-blown vases are furniture maker Jeff Martin Joinery’s new venture in the design of everyday things. The vessels have a bumpy and unpredictable exterior that adds value to their avant-garde aesthetic. The collection, which is dubbed ‘Excavated Vessels,’ is essentially an experimentation with material use.

Building on the notion of sustainability, the label utilizes the "remnants from [its] cork casting processes." The shape and texture of the curiously beautiful glass-blown vases are the result of filling the negative space of cork molds during the primary material’s expansion. The process is affected by oxygen, which causes the cork to catch fire and ultimately result in destroying the mold. Each of the glass-blown vases has to be "excavated from the cork" and due to the uniqueness of the process, each piece is one-of-a-kind.
