Ratcheting Home Decor

DIY Geared Candleholder from Make is a Metal Masterpiece

Make's Geared Candlehoder was designed by Benjamin Cowden, and the instructions were published in MAKE Volume 21 so that anyone who wants to can make it on their own. Building it isn't for the faint of heart, however, as engineering intern Eric Chu discovered.

Since the Geared Candleholder uses gears, these gears must be crafted by drilling holes, sawing and filing. All of the work was worth the effort, according to Chu, who was delighted with the outcome.

Implications - While the idea was always magically mind-blowing to the creators, the folks at Make experienced gratification when the piece was finally completed. Their massive smiles were unshakable when the gears started to turn and the contraption was put into practice.
