LGBT Video Game Conventions

GaymerCon is the First Focused on LGBT Gaming Culture

It will be a long wait with plenty of anticipation before the very first GaymerCon in San Fransisco in August of 2013. The first tech and gaming conference to focus on LGBT gaming culture is being funded through a kickstarter campaign that is doing incredibly well with a week still left in the campaign.

The typical gamer is thought of as a white dude sitting in a dark basement mashing away at buttons furiously. That stereotype isn’t very inclusive of the diversity of gamers as a whole. If you spend long enough playing a multi-player online game, you will see that homophobic and other discriminatory remarks get thrown around a lot more than they should. GaymerCon is aiming to create an inclusive space for gamers of every gender, race and sexual orientation.

The interest this event has already received shows that GaymerCon could become a huge event. Head over to kickstarter to help fund the event and get updates by following them on Twitter (@GaymerCon).
