Gareth Pugh Transforms Menswear into a Virtual Reality Experience

In light of London’s high end department store Selfridges’ event the Festival of Imagination that took place this month, English fashion designer Gareth Pugh partnered up with engineering firm Inition to create a virtual reality experience that features an immersive design that reflects a reality that uses predominantly the five senses called the Monolith. Using the new virtual reality technology Oculus Rift and fitting the device into a conical shaped helmet, the device allows visitors and users to fully immerse themselves in a series of monochromatic cityscapes with modern and avant garde silhouettes, coupled with the use of shapes and angles that aim to abstractly represent Pugh’s aesthetics in menswear design.

On talking about the inspiration behind the immersive experience, Pugh says, "the inspiration for this piece really came from the desire to create a totally immersive experience. I’ve always believed in the importance of fashion film and new technology as a means of communication."
