Watrix Technology Can Identify Humans Based on Their Walking Pattern

While consumers are well aware of facial recognition, Chinese startup Watrix has launched a gait recognition technology. The gait recognition technology is 96% accurate and allows individuals to be identified based on their walking pattern, even if their back is to the camera.

Matrix's technology analyzes a person's body shape, arm angles, posture, and foot patterns to determine the individual's identity. The use of multiple factors for recognition makes it much more reliable than facial recognition, which can easily be thwarted due to facial obstructions like hats or scarfs. "With facial recognition people need to look into a camera – cooperation is not needed for them to be recognized [based on their gate]," stated co-found and chief executive of Watrix, Huan Yonngzhen. This new technology could drastically change how individuals are identified.
