Takeoff Technologies is a start-up that is introducing the future of grocery via its micro fulfillment centers, which take the form of highly automated distribution facilities. As these centers are quite small in scale, they have the potential to be set up inside of existing supermarkets and stores. As Takeoff CEO and co-founder Jose Vicente Aguerrevere puts it: "When we place the fulfillment center right at the supermarket, then we take care of the last mile."
The centers' scale, placement and technology will help orders to quickly be assembled by staff and at the same time, allow for consumers to quickly pick up their orders.
Takeoff has plans to launch its first micro fulfillment center as of October, which will feature robots from automation company Knapp to assist human packers.
