AR Love Messages

The 'Free the Love' App Shares Augmented Reality Balloon Letter Messages

To complement and highlight its new 'Hippie Modernism: The Struggle for Utopia' exhibit, the UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) launched the 'Free the Love' app.

With the app, users are able to send out and view messages of love to the Bay Area using augmented reality. Once shared with the universe, uplifting messages like "Love Wins" can be seen through the screen of an app, spelled out in psychedelic floating balloon letters. Locals are also able to make the most of the app by taking a 'Love Tour,' which will guide them to some of the most well-known "hippie locations around the Bay Area."

The timely art exhibition is timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love, which San Francisco will be celebrating throughout 2017.
