The designer of the Framed Collection lights wished to showcase the lightbulb since, after all, it is the most practical feature of the piece. Without it, pendant lamps such as these would be mere sculptures, hanging from the ceilings of dark rooms.
Martin Doller created three models of the fixtures that embrace the glowing globes with finned cages of different forms. One is long and slender, another begins broadly and tapers towards the bottom and the third looks like an inverted chalice. Each one is easily assembled from thin strips of aircraft-grade aluminum, enabling the Framed Collection lights to be shipped flat for economical storage and delivery. Even with their industrial quality, the pieces embody an elegance with their black anodized finishes and their woven cords of red, gold or ebony.
