Mixed-Reality Fragrance Experiences

Coty's Multi-Sensory Experience Pairs Scent & Virtual Visuals

To enhance consumers' fragrance experiences, Coty created a multi-sensory, immersive journey that explores fine fragrances with technology.

Due to the way the brain processes scents, smelling a particular aroma stirs up imagery and emotions in the mind depending on one's experiences. To make the most of the way one's sense of smell is impacted by touch, sight and sound, Coty invited consumers into a virtual environment to help them discover their perfect scent.

The experience involved a total of seven tactile "scent stones," which could be picked up and brought to the nose for an olfactory experience. With a virtual reality headset in place, participants were also treated to a rich sensory experience of sounds and visuals matching the qualities of the fragrances. For example, the mixed-reality fragrance experience created around Gucci's 'Bloom' was set in a greenhouse filled with fantastically oversized flowers.
