The FDA Begins Investigating Mobile Applications

The Food and Drug Administration seems to be one of the few American federal institutes with their thumb on the pulse of the country. And they ought to—they’re doctors!

Between Google’s Human Body App and nutritional programs like ‘Fooducate,’ countless applications exist to diagnose your pains, suggest medication and even heal you! As the purveyor of medical goods, both virtual and physical, it falls upon the Food and Drug Administration to formally investigate each health-related product on the Android and iTunes stores.

What does this mean for business? Well, for starters, the FDA is cautious not to scare away entrepreneurs with their presence and actively encourages "the development of new apps." However, developers who sell peripherals may fall under extra scrutiny, simply because of the strange attachments that have already surfaced in online stores.
