Melting Pagoda Uses Fluid Simulation for Dramatic Demolition

Javier Merono created this video of a fluorescent orange pagoda slowly melting away by using FLIP, a fluid simulation program.

An anagram for Fluid-Implicit Particle, FLIP can be applied to video, creating a highly realistic visual of items that are turning into liquid right before our eyes, yet it is all done digitally on the computer. The clear plastic look of this pagoda is an excellent example to use with this software as the translucent orange walls show how the material would look as layers of molten plastic cascade down to the floor.

This type of fluid simulation can be applied to sculptures and building for special effects in videos or animated clips, while leaving the actual constructions fully intact and undamaged.
