Shimmering Island Walkways

The Floating Piers Project Lets People Walk Between Islands

Floating Piers is a wonderfully modern and impressively well planned installation that is designed to make it easier than ever for residents and visitors to Italy to hop between the islands located in and around the waters of Lake Iseo.

Designed by artists Jeanne-Claude and Christo, the Floating Piers project comprises an incredible 200,000 high-density polyethlylene cubes that can quickly and easily be attached together in a modular manner. It will be around 16 meters wide and 50 cm high, and will cover a total area somewhere in the region of 70,000 square meters. Floating Piers will be sheathed in an eye-catching yellow fabric that will give it a memorable look.

Floating Piers is ultimately a project that sits at the intersection of architecture and modern art, by blending visual appeal with functionality
