R-architecture has added a mirrored visitors' center, titled 'Pavillon d'Accueil de Flaine,' to the iconic Flaine resort. The famed holiday spot, originally designed by Marcel Breuer in 1969, is located in the Haute Savoie region of the French Alps.
The center features a five-sided plan and mirrored cladding, which is meant to complement the concrete facades and diamond shapes that make up the rest of the resort. The main facade is made up of glazed walls and timber casing, arranged in an angular format that shields guests from adverse weather conditions.
The exterior walls are metal-clad, with one side featuring perforations that spell out the resort's logo. In daylight, the center is incredibly reflective of its impressive surroundings, however, "At night, the pavilion transforms itself into a lantern, the volume illuminating as a beacon."
