Foliage-Covered Wardrobes

Tord Boontje for Meta

It's hard to tell this is actually a wardrobe unless someone told you. Tord Boontje, a Dutch industrial designer created this piece for Meta. The doors of the wardrobe consist of hundreds of hand-painted enamelled copper leaves. When opened a patinated bronze tree is revealed. One assumes the clothes are meant to hang on the branches. At the back is a hand-dyed, woven silk lining.

This creation is without a doubt, a labour of love with a good deal of craftsmanship thrown in. But there may well be a little too much form and not enough function for those with a practical bent.
