Feminist-Inspired Digital Collages

Feminist Artist María Creates Digital Collages from Histor

In the ever increasing medium of creating beautiful and thought-provoking art pieces by the help of technology, a series of collages created by Peruvian feminist artist María María Acha-Kutscher has created a stunningly visual series of collages that are made from infinitely layered digital images that are combined together digitally.

The portraits or collages consist of hundreds of elements taken from magazines, the Internet, books and even the artist's own collection of photographs. These vintage images are primarily combined with at least two important historical moments in the emancipation of women, the first is the British suffrage movement of the early twentieth century, and the second, being the introduction of the pill in the 1960s.

"In my collages, I rescue a female historical memory, reflecting both our political struggles and the complexity of our private worlds," says Maria.
