Faceless Female Portraits

These Retro Female Paintings Don't Show the Women's Faces

Artist James Rieck has created a unique collection of vintage-themed female paintings. Each image reflects an iconic advertisement that has been recreated through the eyes of this artist.

The collection of female paintings is cohesive through the artist's technique of shielding or cutting off the women's face altogether. There are absolutely no images that contain an entire face. The paintings focus more on the torsos and the objects, surroundings or clothing. By eliminating the facial expressions, the viewer is forced to engage with the images on a deeper level to discover what the image is about and what the subjects are feeling.

The images range from black and white to vibrantly colorful scenes. The black and white images tend to reflect car advertisements and the colorful images often feature more than one female.
