This familial photography series is quite different from the typical family portrait. Rather than posing in front of an elegant backdrop, photographer Huang Qingjun asked families to pose in front of their house with everything they owned. Qingjun spent almost ten years travelling through small towns in China and convincing them to participate in his project titled 'Family Stuff.'
It may seem like a daunting task for many but Qingjun wanted to illustrate how these rural towns seem to live a much simpler lifestyle than those in the city. Modernization and technology have infiltrated most metropolitan homes and along with this came an abundance of consumer goods. In contrast, the families pictured here instead rely on a few things to survive. These modest familial photography portraits are reminiscent of a simpler day and time.
