EyeMusic Translates Visual Stimuli Into Sounds for the Blind

There have been a number of sensory-based innovations helping the blind sense the world around them, and the EyeMusic is one that does so in a pleasant and stimulating way. Created by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, EyeMusic is a pair of glasses that turns visual imagery into music.

How the EyeMusic works is that it scans, from left to right, the color of the object in front of it, and produces a melody that corresponds to that color, as each hue has been assigned a specific musical instrument. For example, the color blue corresponds to the sound of a trumpet and red corresponds to a reggae organ. What's more the, the brighter the object, the louder is the accompanying music.

According to medGadget, an article in the Journal of Restorative Neurology and Neuroscience states that EyeMusic is an innovative system that "may one day lead to an effective interface for blind people."
