The eVolo Skyscraper Competition Winner is Anciently-Inspired

The winner of this year's eVolo Skyscraper Competition is a gorgeous design by Yong Ju Lee called 'Vernacular Versatility.'

The incredible structure takes inspiration from traditional Korean carpentry and aside from its striking form, this design would require absolutely no nails to construct. Instead, pieces of wood are interlocked together to form a support system. The complex structure was developed with advanced modeling software, which makes it possible to turn the nail-free concept into a high rise structure.

The result is a beautiful blend of old world crafting techniques adapted with modern technology, which can be seen in the building's change of form from its right to left side. It's clear why Yong Ju Lee nailed the win for this year's eVolo Skyscraper Competition.
