Eric So x Ai Weiwei sculptures reference the artists ongoing nude studio portrait series.
The series is entitled 'Aibudao,' which in Chinese means 'unlovable.' The toy designer and artist and political activist created these sculptures, which are intended to be a self portrait of Weiwei himself. They feature a very robust man in the nude with exaggerated features and disheveled hair. Each of the identical four sculptures are set up in a diagonal formation and are made of different colored fiberglass. The quote accompanying the series states, "As artists, we are destined to be challenged by persistence and finding the true meaning of creativity." This alludes to the artist's ongoing commitment and perseverance throughout his career within the art world.
The Eric So x Ai Weiwei sculptures are currently being displayed at the Singapore Museum of Art and Design’s booth, C2-02.
