Inspired by Jules Verne's 'Around the World in Eighty Days,' Paris will be host to a unique endurance racing event in 2017. These kinds of events have become popular ways for riders to tout toughness and for manufacturers to show off the durability of their machines, but the 80 Day Race will put sustainability at the forefront, challenging the future of driving.
The event's entrants are not permitted to use machines with internal combustion engine or ones that are powered by fossil fuels. The 80 Day Race will take participants on a route of their choosing from Paris to China, then across the seas to North America, South America and Africa before returning to Paris once more. At each city, educational programs will be hosted to inspire the young engineers and others involved.
So far, STORM Eindhoven is the first team to announce entry for the 2017 race. This student-based team will be driving an electric motorcycle that makes use of a honeycomb-inspired battery storage system.
