The 'Snowcap' Emergency Shelter Concept is Arctic-Ready

The 'Snowcap' deployable emergency shelter concept is a piece of equipment imagined for extreme conditions to help individuals maintain safety when in environments where the elements threaten their life. The structure features an origami Mylar material that would work to reflect heat into the pod-like shelter, while the lightweight fiberglass structure would hold it in place. This would enable it to be a cost-effective solution that could be deployed for use in mere seconds.

The 'Snowcap' deployable emergency shelter concept is the design work of Samuel Charles Barratt and Henry Glogau, and was tested in five different locations in Alaska during an expedition lasting a month. The structure is the winner of a Best of the Best Red Dot Design Award for 2020.
