Mirrored Transit Line Sculptures

Elizabeth Railway Line Will Be Designed by Artist Yayoi Kusuma

Famed for her infinity mirror installations, the artist Yayoi Kusama will now be designing London's Elizabeth Railway line in the same bubbly and whimsical manner.

In an effort to make public spaces more aesthetically pleasing, London announced its Crossrail Art Programme, in which the city commissioned numerous artists to make their mark on the city's transit line. Kusama's contribution to the project will be comprised of mirrored spheres and steel rods that comes together to create a unique arching structure that appears to be floating in mid-air. The work is titled Infinite Accumulation, and shares a liking to her polka dot work which brought Kusuma in the public eye.

When asked about the project, Sir Terry Morgan, Crossrail chairman said he hoped the program would "cement London’s place as a global capital for arts and culture."
