The Elisa von Brockdorff 'The Staged World' Series is Bold and Bright

The Elisa von Brockdorff 'The Staged World' series teeters between whimsical fantasy and a magical reality with its creative use of colors and ordinary objects.

The Malta-born artist Elisa von Brockdorff knowns her stuff, receiving a Masters Degree in Fine Art from the University for the Creative Arts in Canterbury, England. In each photograph she sets up scenes with mundane, everyday objects. Each object is meant to challenge its placement. Ranging from a cigarette as a spoon in bubble gum pink ice cream to candy-crafted plants, each photograph has the viewer thinking twice about the objects' original use.

The photographs are comedic with the slightest hint of irony. However, any darker symbolism is lightened by the brightly hued set-ups. The playful staged set-ups are the perfect mix of a bold palette and minimalism.
