Ultra-Sensitive Electronic Skins

These Colorado Scientists Unveiled Self-Healing Electronic Skins

A group of scientists from the University of Colorado Boulder recently unveiled impressive electronic skins that are able to mimic the sensory qualities that human skin has, including the abilities to detect changes in pressure and temperature.

As the electronic skins are incredibly thin, they're able to adhere to the wearer's body with ease, and be used on prosthetic limbs to offer a more realistic sensation when handling different objects. In addition to allowing for more sensitive touch, the electronic skins allow wearers to easily detect how hot a cup is, or even determine whether or not someone has a fever. This enables the wearer to prevent damage to their prosthetic limbs and the items they might handle with them, and to have more independence in their day-to-day lives.

The unique composition of the electronic skins allow them to self-heal if they're in need of repairs, and the used technology can be recycled to create new electronic skins as well.
