Morphing License Plates

The Electronic License Plate Can Label Unauthorized Drivers

In order to help law enforcement officials identify unauthorized drivers, Compliance Innovations developed an electronic license plate. The plates use electronic paper in order to allow a state's DMV to control the words on the plate.

When a driver is unauthorized to drive a car, the DMV can dynamically morph the wording on the license plate. If a driver is uninsured, the plates could be made to read "UNINSURED" remotely. Similarly, if the car is stolen, big red letters that read "STOLEN" can be displayed.

The electronic license plates are kept perpetually charged through sustainable means. Compliance Innovations's plate can charge itself with solar energy or through a car's vibrations. However, the plate can still display an image without power for over a decade.
