Ironic Zine Art

Edie Fake Creates Art That is Both Challenging and Amusing

Edie Fake is a multi-talented illustrator, zine creator, performance artist, and comic book maker from Chicago with a penchant for creating art that is amusing, challenging, and distinctive.

Looking through Edie Fake's selected portfolio the first thing that jumps out at you is his sense of humor. His image of a group of tiger-looking, pharaoh types posing stylishly and pairs it with the caption: "Then welcome to the Court of the Gaylord."

HIs work carries a certain DIY, zine-aesthetic that gives it a distinguishable look and charm. My favorite image from the Edie Fake collection features two humanimal horse women discussing the need for more feminists, and more specifically, radical feminists. The illustration blends a wry sense of humor with a culturally significant topic, which is where Edie Fake's work shines brightest.

People are starting to notice. Fake recently received an 'Awards for Artists' book grant from independent art non-profit Printed Matter, and his book, 'Gaylord Phoenix' will be released by New York-based comic publisher Secret Acres in the fall of 2011.
