Installed halfway hanging off the walls to look as though they are floating, the Edge of Space sculpture collection, created by Ron van der Ende, is a study in perspective.
While the pieces may look like they could be made out of rusty metal and natural minerals, they are actually all made out of salvaged wood. The artist used a special technique in his painting, created a mosaic of tiny brush strokes to highlight facets and dimension, as well as creating an inner glow within his sculptures that makes them seem to embody a metallic sheen.
The resulting effect in the Edge of Space collection is an illusion of heavy metallic materials that, in reality, feel unexpectedly brittle and light.
